20th National Day of Urban Trekking: Trekking in Colour: Sustainability Practices Through the Ages
After the great success of the previous editions, with the participation of more than 70 municipalities and many citizens, the “National Day of Urban Trekking” will be back. Organized by the Municipality of Siena, this 20th edition will be held on 31 October 2023 under the title ” Trekking in Colour: Sustainability Practices Through the Ages”.
Urban Trekking, born in Siena 20 years ago as a proposal of slow and sustainable tourism, aims to valorise territories in a sustainable key with routes and initiatives that recall and tell stories, activities and exercises of sustainability declined in all its meanings (environmental, economic and social) and its changes over the centuries.
The Call for Applications to join the Urban Trekking Day is now open. Cities interested in taking part in the initiative are invited to apply until 20 June.
This year’s theme is particularly in line with URBiNAT’s objectives.
Free participation in the event is granted to the European cities of the URBiNAT project, to underline the importance of exporting even more the model of urban trekking beyond Italian borders.
Stefania Fattorini, Councilor for Trade and Tourism of the Municipality of Siena, stressed that it is thanks to this type of initiatives and tourist itineraries that it is possible to enhance the value of the Italian territories. Hence the choice of the theme of this 2023 edition. It is a way to celebrate both the 20th anniversary of this event and the important recognition that Siena has received: In 2023, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, which manages global standards for sustainable travel and tourism, has certified Siena as the first sustainable city of art in Italy.
