There is a growing media interest in URBiNAT plans for the creation of a Healthy Corridor in the neighbourhoods of Campanha and Falcao, especially since a preliminary of the urban plan for the district, in November 2020. A crescente urbanização transformou o tecido económico e social da “auréola exterior do Porto ligada a esta área” e recon?gurou a paisagem, considera Filipe Araújo. Segundo o vice-presidente da autarquia, “Campanhã ainda tem muita gente a cultivar terrenos e é preciso promover a ruralidade que ainda existe”.
Para isso, tem contribuído o trabalho do seu pelouro desde 2013, altura em que existiam apenas as hortas de Aldoar e da Condomínia, abertas em 2003 e 2004, respectivamente. Nos últimos anos, foram criadas três novas: a Horta da Lada, na escarpa da Ribeira, a Horta de Vilar, perto do Palácio de Cristal, e a Horta da Oliveira. Até ao ?nal do ano, serão feitas obras de expansão nesta última, que terá mais de 17 talhões. Prevê-se, ainda, a inauguração de uma nova horta com 32 talhões em Paranhos, no terreno contíguo ao que já tem uma horta da Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação da Universidade do Porto (FPCEUP).
“As hortas fazem parte de uma estratégia mais ampla relacionada com a preservação do ambiente”, considera Filipe Araújo, para quem o projecto representa uma peça instrumental na “preservação do espaço público”.

Growing urbanization has transformed the economic and social fabric of the “outer area of the city of Oporto”. It has taken over the landscape, according to Filipe Araújo, vice-president of the municipality of Porto. “Campanhã still has a lot of people cultivating land and it is essential to promote the rurality that still exists”.
His work has contributed to this since 2013, when there were only the Aldoar and Condomínia gardens, opened in 2003 and 2004, respectively. In recent years, three new gardens have been created: Horta da Lada, on the Ribeira escarpment, Horta de Vilar, near the Crystal Palace, and Horta da Oliveira. Until the end of the year, expansion work will be done on the latter, with more than 17 plots. The inauguration of a new vegetable garden with 32 plots in Paranhos is also planned, on the land adjoining the one that already has a vegetable garden of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP).
“The gardens are part of a wider strategy related to the preservation of the environment”, said Filipe Araújo, for whom the project represents an instrumental piece in the “preservation of public space”.
Com um investimento de 1,4 milhões de euros, o espaço vai ter quatro hectares e será realizado no âmbito do URBiNAT, um projecto europeu que assenta “na criação de corredores verdes saudáveis com base em soluções naturais”.
Até Dezembro, o município deverá ?car com “seis hortas e cerca de 200 talhões”, mas as novidades não ?cam por aqui. Recentemente, a Câmara do Porto anunciou a criação do Parque da Alameda de Cartes, inserida num pacote de intervenções para reabilitação e expansão das áreas verdes da cidade.
Filipe Araújo: “O novo parque, cujas obras deverão arrancar em Outubro, vai abranger terrenos públicos, situados na interface entre os Bairros do Falcão, do Cerco do Porto e do Lagarteiro e o Parque Oriental e vai “quase abraçar a Horta da Oliveira”. Em Setembro de 2022, já deverá existir ali um espaço verde urbano contínuo com uma rede de caminhos pedonais acessíveis a todos os cidadãos. “Tudo isto tem um efeito de mudança geracional”.

With an investment of 1.4 million euros, the space will have four hectares and will be carried out under the scope of URBiNAT, a European project based on “the creation of healthy green corridors based on natural solutions”.
Until December, the municipality should have “six vegetable gardens and about 200 plots”, but the novelties don’t come here. Recently, the Porto City Hall announced the creation of Alameda de Cartes Park, as part of a package of interventions for the rehabilitation and expansion of the city’s green areas.
Filipe Araújo: “The new park, which is due to start work in October, will cover public land, located at the interface between the Falcão, Cerco do Porto and Lagarteiro districts and the Eastern Park and will “almost embrace Horta da Oliveira”. In September 2022, there should already be a continuous urban green space with a network of footpaths accessible to all citizens. “All this has an effect of generational change”.
